When the AC fails in a Pune April or a humid Goa afternoon, it is more than an inconvenience. Here are the causes we see most often, from simplest to most involved.
The usual suspects
- Clogged cabin filter — restricts airflow and causes smells.
- Low refrigerant from a leak — the system is sealed, so low gas always means a leak.
- Dirty or damaged condenser — blocked by dust, leaves or stone damage at the front.
- Radiator or condenser fan fault — AC works on the move but not in traffic.
- Compressor or control valve failure — many luxury cars use electronically controlled compressors.
- Blend door actuator fault — one side hot, the other cold.
- Sensor or climate control module faults — read through diagnostics.
Why a "gas top-up" is not a repair
Topping up a leaking system only buys time. The right process is to recover any remaining gas, find the leak, repair it, pull a vacuum to remove moisture, and recharge to the exact weight the manufacturer specifies.
