Pune’s monsoon brings flooded underpasses and potholes; Goa adds salt air and months of humidity. Luxury cars carry a lot of electronics low down in the body, so a few simple checks go a long way.
Before the rains
- Check tyre tread depth and pressures — aquaplaning risk rises fast with worn tyres.
- Replace worn wiper blades and top up washer fluid.
- Check brake pads and discs, and change brake fluid if it is due.
- Clear sunroof and scuttle drains so water does not enter the cabin or electronics.
- Test the battery — damp weather finds weak batteries quickly.
Driving through water
If you cannot see the road surface, do not drive through. Water entering the engine air intake can cause severe damage (hydrolock). If you must cross shallow water, go slowly and steadily, and test your brakes gently afterwards.
After the monsoon
- Underbody wash to remove mud and, in Goa, salt.
- Cabin filter change and AC evaporator cleaning to remove musty smells.
- Check for damp carpets, which can damage wiring and modules under the floor.
- Suspension and alignment check after a season of potholes.
Cars that sit for months
Many Goa holiday-home cars sit unused through the monsoon. Use a battery maintainer, keep tyres at correct pressure, and start the car and drive it properly every couple of weeks if possible. Before using it again after a long gap, get brakes, fluids and the battery checked.
